Georgia Insitute of Technology [email protected] Abstract In this paper, we introduce an end-to-end QoS adaptation framework to resolve QoS inconsistencies as a result of mobile hando s in Wireless ATM (WATM) networks. We dene mobile QoS (M-QoS) to comprise of wired, wireless and hando QoS parameters. We introduce two forms of adaptation, namely: (a) application and (b) network QoS adaptation. The former is concerned with bandwidth, delay variation and packet loss adaptation by the mobile application while the latter refers to M-QoS ful llment, upgrade and downgrade. New procedures are de ned for MQoS upgrade and downgrade, so that QoS `refresh' tra c is controlled and the overall time required to perform a hando remains largely una ected. Results obtained from a call-level mobile network simulator further con rms the advantages of the proposed QoS adaptation scheme.

Intelligent control of QoS adaptation in next generation wireless broadband networks

This paper highlights the differences in Quality of Service (QoS) definitions for wired high speed ATM networks and wireless broadband ATM networks. In particular, we highlight the issues behind QoS mapping and discuss several frameworks for QoS adaptation in wireless broadband networks. We explain the need for end-to-end adaptation and reveal how such adaptation occurs during mobile handoffs. ...

Improving Quality of Service Routing in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks Using OLSR

Mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) are constructed by mobile nodes without access point. Since MANET has certain constraints, including power shortages, an unstable wireless environment and node mobility, more power-efficient and reliable routing protocols are needed. The OLSR protocol is an optimization of the classical link state algorithm. OLSR introduces an interesting concept, the multipoint r...

Hierarchal Grouping Strategy with Adaptive Power Tuning in ZigBee Wireless Sensor Networks

Designing wireless sensor networks should meet appropriate parameters such as quality of service (QoS) defined by different users. The variable physical conditions of the environment, processing and transmission power limitations and limited communication capabilities are the most important obstacles that influence QoS parameters such as throughput, delay, reliability and network lifetime. The ...

3D Path Planning Algorithm for Mobile Anchor-Assisted Positioning in Wireless Sensor Networks

Positioning service is one of Wireless Sensor Networks’ (WSNs) fundamental services. The accurate position of the sensor nodes plays a vital role in many applications of WSNs. In this paper, a 3D positioning algorithm is being proposed, using mobile anchor node to assist sensor nodes in order to estimate their positions in a 3D geospatial environment. However, mobile anchor node’s 3D path optim...

QoS Routing in Ad Hoc Wireless Networks

The emergence of nomadic applications have recently generated much interest in wireless network infrastructures that support real-time communications. In this paper, we propose a bandwidth routing protocol for quality-of-service (QoS) support in a multihop mobile network. The QoS routing feature is important for a mobile network to interconnect wired networks with QoS support (e.g., ATM, Intern...
